Donate now to help affected people by tsunami Disaster. Oxfam is concerned that donors provide new aid and do not divert aid from other crises.
Concerns about aid pledges and coordination and plea not to forget the world's other humanitarian crises. Relief operations by international agency Oxfam staff are under way in four of the countries worst hit by the massive tsunami wave. Oxfam calls on the international community to channel its response through the United Nations in the interests of effective co-ordination.
Jasmine Whitbread, International Director of international agency Oxfam said: "Given the scale and scope of this crisis, strong UN leadership is critical. From what we see on the ground in Sri Lanka and Indonesia, they are rising to the challenge, which is enormous. Early signs are that donors are seeking to be generous and flexible in their pledges, but this must be sustained as this crisis will not be a two week wonder.
